Streisand she ain’t, but klutzy Catholic schoolgirl Mary Katherine Gallagher (Shannon, reprising the character she made famous on SNL) displays diva-worthy intensity in Superstar as she strives for stardom and a kiss from the Big Man on Campus (Ferrell). This flimsy feature-length sketch is strongest when Shannon leaps headlong into Mary’s private rituals and fantasies (e.g., practicing kisses with trees and stop signs). It’s sometimes painfully funny — but often just painful. B-
