The ”legendary” Marvin Pontiac is really Lounge Lizards frontman John Lurie, who’s gone incognito for Greatest Hits, a gimmicky solo album of self-consciously weird semi-songs. Pontiac is supposedly a mental patient savant, but most of these arty blues tunes are too considered and careful to approach the real-life musical eccentrics — like Skip Spence or Captain Beefheart — whom he seems to be trying to emulate.
