Awash in overused and overly similar symphonic samples, Black and White comes with too many strings attached. While a few cuts break the formula — Xecutioners’ ”Dramacide” is bolstered by a fierce disco riff and showy vocal turns by Kool G Rap and Big Pun; LV smoothes out the Stylistics’ ballad ”You’re a Big Girl Now” — most of this new-school hip-hop compilation seems colorless when not in the film.
