Begun in ’95 and completed last year by its original producers Danny Saber and ex-Gang of Four guitarist Andy Gill, the self-titled solo departure by INXS singer Michael Hutchence, who died in ’97, tries to bring Hutchence’s ’80s arena-rock trip-hopping into the present. Although the neo-symphonic ballads “Possibilities” and “Flesh and Blood” nearly attain Portishead’s tense peaks, the feeble tunes and stale atmospherics elsewhere suggest a Bush remix record. C-
