Episode Recaps

On Feb. 3, 79-year-old James Doohan (Star Trek‘s Scotty) announced he and his wife are expecting a child in April. To repeat: Doohan is 79. Meanwhile, author Saul Bellow revealed last month he became a papa at 84, and relative spring chicken Michael Douglas, 55, and his fiancee, Catherine Zeta-Jones, 30, are expecting. The trend baffles experts: Says U. of Washington demographer Bob Plotnick: “Forty-five-year-old fathers is one thing. But 70 or 80?” Still, Doohan et al.’s peers seem pleased. “Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!” cheers Bob Hope, 96. Adds Milton Berle, 91: “More power to them…. I checked with my wife, and she said no [more kids], so we’ll keep what we have.”
