STOP MAKING SENSE (Palm Pictures, $29.95) Talking Heads’ wildly entertaining concert spectacle is among the greatest music films ever made, and this 15th-anniversary DVD presents the movie beautifully. The band’s lively avant-funk-pop has never sounded better, presented here in remastered digital sound (complete with separate audio tracks for the film and album mixes). And the DVD’s generous extras go a long way toward explaining the film’s visual appeal: David Byrne and director Jonathan Demme contribute a smart audio commentary, while Byrne’s storyboards show the designs behind everything from the famous big suit to oddball Byrne moves like ”spastic dance” and ”knock-knee dance.” A

ARMY OF DARKNESS: LIMITED EDITION 2 DISC SET (Anchor Bay, $44.98) The first disc features the U.S. theatrical cut of director Sam Raimi’s comical sword-and-sorcery adventure — the third in the Evil Dead series — while disc 2 is the longer director’s cut, complete with an alternate ending. Features storyboards, theatrical trailer, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes documentary, commentary by Raimi and star Bruce Campbell, wide-screen, and pan-and-scan.

DRUGSTORE COWBOY (Artisan, $29.98) Matt Dillon shoots ’em up as a larcenous junkie in Gus Van Sant’s indie sensation. Features wide-screen, theatrical trailer, commentary by Van Sant and Dillon, documentary.

LIAR LIAR: COLLECTOR’S EDITION (Universal, $34.98) As a truth-challenged lawyer, Jim Carrey plays it straight…. Nah, I’m fibbing. Features wide-screen, documentary, outtakes, theatrical trailer, commentary from director Tom Shadyac, deleted scenes.

STEPHEN KING’S THE STAND (Artisan, $39.98) Don’t fear the reaper in this made-for-ABC miniseries adaptation of the virulent best-seller. Features commentary by King and director Mick Garris, behind-the-scenes featurette, storyboards.
