Every so often, you’ve got to indulge in a slice of Literature Lite, preferably one featuring a brilliant-but-mad serial killer. If you’re jonesing, consider Johansen’s latest: The heroine is forensic sculptor Eve Duncan, who mourned her murdered daughter in last year’s The Face of Deception. The love interest is Joe Quinn, an ex-FBI agent and Navy SEAL, who woos Duncan with great lines like ”I’m here and I’m serious as hell.” Finally, there’s the Bible-quoting maniac Dom, who claims he offed Duncan’s daughter — and she’s next. The killings are lurid, the romance is lusty, and the zigzag plot zips along. You’ll find your quick-read needs thoroughly sated. B+
