The film version of SNL alumna Sweeney’s one-woman show lacks the intimacy that was such a part of its stage incarnation. That’s a necessary component, since the ex-Pat’s monologue recounts — in often bemused, always humane detail — her brother’s battle with lymphoma, her family’s dysfunctional way of dealing with it, and her own subsequent cervical cancer and hysterectomy. Though never as cerebral and detached as Spalding Gray’s similar Gray’s Anatomy, Sweeney’s tale suffers from the camera’s analytical dissection of her traumas. She’s touchingly honest in putting them out there; the fourth wall simply prevents you from looking in. B-
