FOR SALE Marilyn Monroe slept here! A two-house, eight-acre spread in L.A.’s chichi Holmby Hills PRICE $59 million
That’s no typo. $59 million. What does it get you? Two mansions: a 12,000-square-foot, nine-bedroom Italian-style villa with a library and a movie theater; and an 8,000-square-foot, seven-bedroom abode with a duck pond — plus lots of history. The bigger home was once owned by 20th Century Fox cofounder Joseph Schenck (Monroe, reportedly his mistress, lived there in 1949). Later residents included Tony Curtis and Sonny and Cher. The smaller roost, built in 1925, once belonged to swimming star Esther Williams. The current owner, an international investor, combined the homes (the brokers are Sotheby’s Brooke Knapp and Drew Mandile). Still, $59 million? Well, says a broker, the sprawling grounds are a rarity in L.A., where size does matter.
