Book Review: 'A Little More About Me'
Houston has spent much of her career writing about her extreme adventures (dogsledding in Alaska, trekking in Bhutan), which are recounted in the 24 pieces gathered here. The subtext is Houston’s realization, in her mid-30s, that her addiction to danger is getting out of hand. Since most of these essays have been published before, the point gets repeated an awful lot. This could be annoying, except for the grace with which the author writes of her chosen field: nature and ”that fragile shimmery line between all that’s brave and all that’s crazy.” Houston is a worthy heir to Diane Ackerman, another lyrical outdoorswoman of literature.
