Music Review: 'The Best of alt.country: Exposed Roots'
Surprise: K-tel, maker of those chintzy ”original hits by the original stars” compilations back in the ’70s, has turned its attention to the pop fringes. Exposed Roots’ two CDs chronicle the ”alt-country” movement from forefathers to offspring, with choice tracks from Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons, Lucinda Williams, the Jayhawks, Vic Chesnutt, Freakwater, and more. Discounting a couple of duds, The Best of alt.country: Exposed Roots is the best collection of its kind. Keep ’em comin’, folks.
