NOMINATED Korn dominated this year’s MTV Video Music Award nominations, which were announced Wednesday, landing in nine categories for their ”Freak on a Leash” video. Trailing behind with six nominations each were Ricky Martin, TLC, and Will Smith, whose nod for his ”Wild Wild West” video will likely be the only time that film is mentioned at an awards ceremony. The winners will be announced when Chris Rock hosts the show on Sep. 9.

CASTING Charlize Theron is now a member of the May/December casting club, signing up to play Robert De Niro‘s wife in ”Navy Diver”…. Those talks of ”Rocky VI” may have been a bit premature. Variety now reports that Sylvester Stallone IS interested in getting back in the ring, but not for a while, contrary to what the Hollywood Reporter said yesterday. Meanwhile, this fall Stallone will start shooting ”Get Carter,” a remake of the 1971 Michael Caine crime thriller…. There’s been another addition to ”ER”’s cast next season: Michael Michele, late of ”Homicide,” will get into scrubs…. All that pastry humping has paid off for ”American Pie”’s Jason Biggs, who has been signed to a two-picture deal with Miramax. His first movie will be ”Boys and Girls,” playing the kooky best friend of relationship-plagued Freddie Prinze Jr.

NEW MUSIC Pearl Jam will head back into the studio this fall to start work on their new album, which should be out next year. According to MTV News, the band is planning to go on a worldwide tour to support it, so Ticketmaster had better get ready for some more whining.

REEL DEAL Antonio Banderas has said that he is planning to shoot a series of short TV films for HBO based on Gabriel Garcia Marquez stories. Banderas would likely produce and star in some of them.

TOURING Lenny Kravitz is heading back out on the road for a summer tour with Smash Mouth and Buckcherry. The gigs kick off on Aug. 25 in Minneapolis, and will continue through October.

BIRTHS MTV nominations wasn’t the only good news for Korn. The band’s drummer, David Silveria, and his wife had a baby girl, Sofia Aurora, on Tuesday. Hopefully they will not refer to her as their little ”freak on a leash.”
