Episode Recaps

Kula Shaker, led by Crispian Mills (Hayley’s son), boldly recycle the worst aspects of ’60s psychedelia, from self-indulgent jams to half-baked mysticism. Part hipster groove, part hippie groan, the opening track on Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts, ”Great Hosannah,” features a sitar and bongos — it wouldn’t have been out of place on Jesus Christ Superstar. Mills undoubtedly has a certain sense of style; whether it’s respectfully classic or shamelessly derivative is up to you. C+
