With a battalion of high wattage guests, Carlos Santana’s ”comeback” album is an obvious attempt to recast the Woodstock-era guitar god as a thoroughly modern mensch. But don’t let that stop you from digging Supernatural. Whether he’s spraying lyrical notes over a soulful Lauryn Hill composition, trading molten licks with Eric Clapton, or playing spacey blues with Everlast, Santana still has that old ”Black Magic Woman” thing goin’ on. And while he’s no Ricky Martin, the up-tempo Spanish tracks indicate our man knows what time it is. B+
