Richly detailed performances make this quirky drama especially vibrant on the small screen. As the title character in Little Voice, a reclusive mouse of a young woman, Horrocks alternates between compelling, bedeviled silence and a transported glow when she bursts into imitations of Judy Garland, Shirley Bassey, and other musical muses. Completing the domestic scene, Blethyn conveys pathos even as she bellows through her hilarious role as Horrocks’ rhino of a mother. And Caine, playing the low-life talent agent who tries to cash in on Horrocks’ gift, sets new standards for turning on the smarm. A-
