Who Is Harry Kellerman and Why Is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me?
In 1971, Hoffman, director Ulu Grosbard, and playwright Herb Gardner teamed up for this piece of pop surrealism about a famous rock composer’s breakdown. Even then, Who Is Harry Kellerman and Why Is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me? seemed pretentious; now, in its video debut, its stream-of-consciousness flashbacks and hallucinations haven’t improved with age. Only when the film settles down for interludes with a lonely singer (Harris) and the composer’s dying father (David Burns) does it affect us. C-
