A co-architect of the late ’60s Tropicalia movement, Brazil’s Veloso is artfully all over the map in Livro, with the coiling energy of ”Doideca,” the chant-like ”How Beautiful Could a Being Be,” and the bossa ”Minha Voz, Minha Vida.” Former Veloso collaborator Cantuaria mixes geography and genre on Tucuma. New York-made, with guests like Bill Frisell, Laurie Anderson, and Sean Lennon, Cantuaria’s evocative song settings mess with convention, while remaining grounded in melodic logic.
