This ’60s-skewed, L.A.-based pop band’s sophomore effort, Joys and Concern, is brimming with sprightly melodies and thought-provoking lyrics (courtesy of Stew, the group’s sole African-American member). Yet it all seems several shades too clever for today’s dumbed-down marketplace, ensuring that TNP will garner critical approbation while missing out on commercial success.
