The second collaboration between Ani DiFranco and folkie vet Utah Phillips offers few formal or thematic revelations. In Fellow Workers DiFranco supplies suitably shaggy acoustic arrangements, while hardcore leftist Phillips holds forth on the Wobblies and labor organizers Mother Jones and Joe Hill; after a while, it all begins to sound like The Masses on Tape. Phillips may have the courage of his convictions, but his popular-front polemics grow wearisome across 18 tracks. C+
