Although it’s been years since Summer appeared on A Different World, she’s still acting on her first album: as a post-Alanis whiner one minute, a cosmic hippie chick or urban brooder the next, or Fiona Apple’s less neurotic older sister another moment. Lenny Kravitz’s production has a lighter, less dated feel than his usual work. But Street Faerie amounts to Summer’s audition to be any number of familiar rock archetypes. It’s synthetic music trying too hard to be authentic. B-
