EXPECTING Xena: Warrior Princess star Lucy Lawless, 31, and her husband, Xena exec producer Rob Tapert, 44, are expecting their first child in October. Lawless has a daughter, Daisy, 10, from a previous marriage.

BIRTHS A 7-pound 8-ounce boy, Jaden Christopher, to actor Christian Slater, 29, and his girlfriend, TV exec Ryan Haddon, 28, April 6, in New York City. It’s the first child for both.

SPLITS Suddenly Susan star Brooke Shields, 33, and tennis ace Andre Agassi, 28, announced that they’ve called it quits after nearly two years of marriage, April 9, in Las Vegas. Court papers cited ”incompatible tastes [and] temperament.”

LAWSUITS What have they done to deserve this? Brit popsters Pet Shop Boys filed a $80,000 libel suit against author Roger Scruton, March 17, in London. In court papers, the Boys claim Scruton defamed them in his 1998 book An Intelligent Person’s Guide to Modern Culture, citing a passage that reportedly reads, ”With…the Pet Shop Boys, serious doubts arise as to whether the performers made more than a minimal contribution [to their recordings].” A spokesman for Scruton’s publisher says it will fight the charge…. Former pro basketball player Diana Meier, 37, filed a breach of contract and fraud suit against actress Geena Davis, 42, and Lifetime Television, April 9, in L.A. In court papers, Meier says that the 1997 Davis-hosted series Breaking Through, about women athletes, is ”virtually identical” to an L.A. public-access show Meier created. Meier also claims that in 1995 Davis had ”orally agreed” to help her with the program. She is seeking over $400,000 in damages. Lifetime and Davis’ reps have no comment.

RECOVERING Actress Jodie Foster, 36, from an ankle injury suffered on the set of her next film, Anna and the King, April 7, in Malaysia. Foster was treated in a local hospital and released the same day. Production was not delayed.

EXITS Will Anne unite with Cass? Will Iris get out of jail? And what of the twins, Vicky and Marley? Fans of Another World may never know. On April 12, NBC announced that it would pull the plug on the 35-year-old soap June 25. It will be replaced by a new serial, Passions.

DEATHS Country star Boxcar Willie (real name: Lecil Travis Martin), 67, of leukemia, April 12, in Branson, Mo. A crooner with a hobo image, Martin gained fame on TV’s Hee Haw…. Jazz master Red Norvo, 91, of natural causes, April 6, in Santa Monica. A pioneering xylophonist and vibraphonist, Norvo collaborated with Charlie Parker and Frank Sinatra…. Producer/photographer Sam Shaw, 87, cause unknown, in Westwood, N.J., April 5. Known for his 1955 photo for The Seven-Year Itch of Marilyn Monroe on a subway grate, Shaw also produced 1980’s Gloria…. Author Helen Aberson Mayer, 91, of natural causes, April 3, in New York. Mayer’s ”Dumbo, the Flying Elephant” inspired Disney’s 1941 classic.
