Q: On Shania Twain’s Come On Over, the hit song ”From This Moment On” is a duet with country star Bryan White. But on radio versions, it’s just Shania. Hey, whither White?

A: The duet went to No. 1 on country radio, but Mercury Nashville spokeswoman Sandy Neese says the label felt pop stations preferred the White-washed, Shania-only mix included on the international album. ”That’s the one pop radio stations picked up on,” says Neese, ”because Bryan White didn’t mean anything in their world.” Fair enough, but certainly some of the 8 million people who bought the U.S. album are annoyed that they’re getting a different version of the song they’re hearing on Top 40. No wonder Mercury has sold more than 400,000 singles featuring the White-less tune. Sounds like for some fans, Twain is still the only one.
