TLC have been a lot of places since the release of 1994’s CrazySexyCool — top of the charts (courtesy of ”Waterfalls”), bankruptcy court, even criminal court (Left Eye pleaded guilty to burning down her beau’s home). But till last summer they hadn’t been close to a studio. ”We made a bunch of hot garbage at first,” admits T-Boz. ”But we kept singing, and the whole thing came together. We’ve been working, okay? We’re still working.” Just weeks before Fan Mail‘s scheduled Feb. 23 release, TLC hooked up with Atlanta producer Dallas Austin to polish a few tracks, then paid a visit to Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis in Minneapolis. Not to worry, says T-Boz: ”I work well under pressure.” And imagine the frequent-flier miles.
