Once a wide-eyed folk-music naïf, Eric Andersen is a grizzled bohemian now, increasingly drawn to drunken epiphanies, one-night stands, and cheap European cafes (he lives in Norway). Memory of the Future is more adventurous than its predecessor, 1989’s widely praised Ghosts Upon the Road. The best song, the title cut, breaks new stylistic ground: Half Sade, half William Burroughs, it’s jazzy, sleek, and menacing. B
