On his new album, the prototypical West Coast gangsta rapper disses Death to his face, employs Korn’s metal-guitar army, shamelessly samples No Doubt, and revels in being unrepentantly offensive (without the words bitch, ho, and faggot, War & Peace Vol. 1 (The War Disc) would be half as long). Moral qualms aside, the result is ferociously creative: Ice Cube propulsively combines Cali cinemania and New York verbal dexterity into Southern bass booms that’ll combust your woofers. His greatest weapon remains his rhyme flow — it’s like a machine gun, only with better beats. B+
