A passing always brings people together. On Nov. 2 stars turned out in New York for the premiere of Meet Joe Black, the Brad Pitt-as-Death drama, while in L.A., celebs toasted the 15th-anniversary rerelease of The Big Chill, about…c’mon, you know. The mood at Black‘s gala wasn’t morbid for guests Christian Slater, Jennifer Aniston, Michael Douglas, and stars Pitt, Anthony Hopkins, and Claire Forlani. ”I gave [Pitt] advice about the way he looks, since I’m the sexy guy,” Hopkins joked. It worked, according to Carmen Electra: ”Death would be a beautiful place if it looked like Brad Pitt.” Death was warmed over as the Chill cast (minus William Hurt, said to be out of the country) were joined by Salma Hayek, Denise Richards, and Jennifer Tilly. ”The first time I saw it I thought they were all so much older,” said Tilly (sister of Chill costar Meg). This time, she said, ”everyone still seemed older.” Others were less successful at avoiding time’s passage. ”I’m going to see it in a real theater and pay real money,” said Kline. ”Of course, now I get the senior citizen’s discount.”
