Droll and self-deprecating, Ringo was the goofy Beatle, along for the rib-tickling ride. How out of character to hear him employ the VH1 Storytellers format to flip through his Beatles and solo songbook. It’s his yarns, though, that are most engaging: A dinner with Marc Bolan inspired ”Back Off Boogaloo”; the Beatles refused Starr’s originals until the inventive ”Don’t Pass Me By.” A nice retrospective of an underappreciated composer.
