Like Clapton and Mellencamp before him, multiplatinum Canadian crooner Bryan Adams has started searching for that perfect balance of mature grace and useful guitar grind. No fumbling around during On a Day Like Today; Adams’ new restraint energizes this gently jangling material. The melodic, tambourine-urged hooks of ”Fearless” and ”Before the Night Is Over” delight via their understated simplicity. Time to forgive the guy for that scary Robin Hood thing. B+
