The Best of Friends

Like the title says, The Best of Friends gathers tunes teaming the octogenarian boogie guru John Lee Hooker with his admirers. Older tracks range from the too slick (”The Healer” with Carlos Santana) to the gutsy (a Grammy-winning ”I’m in the Mood” with Bonnie Raitt). But some of the choicest cuts are new — the swampy classic ”Boogie Chillen,” with Eric Clapton, and the soulfully stewing ”Burnin’ Hell,” on which Ben Harper and Charlie Musselwhite show Hooker’s lessons have been well learned.
