Sandra Bullock is typically winning as a former high school beauty queen who gets betrayed by her husband (who’s been cheating on her with her best friend) on a TV talk show. Too bad the screenplay sends her character crawling back to her little hometown, where nothing else as interesting happens to her. Add an annoyingly quirky mother (Rowlands), an exasperatingly mopey little girl (Mae Whitman), and a boringly ordinary Mr. Right (Connick), and this failed romantic comedy gets downright hard to sit through. Rent this only if you think “Speed 2” held water.
