I Am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action

Jackie Chan’s I Am Jackie Chan: My Life In Action reads like a Jackie Chan movie: lots of action, scraps of humor, and very little emotional introspection. You’ll learn how Chan’s martial-arts career got started (he spent a decade in the custody of a masochistic master at a Chinese opera school), why he failed to become ”the next Bruce Lee,” and how he eventually dominated the Asian film market. What you won’t learn is why the Rush Hour star feels compelled to risk his life every time he makes a movie, or what, if any, his raison d’etre is besides ”all I want to do is make Jackie Chan films.” This could have been an inspirational Chinese Cinderella story, but the flashy stunts can’t compensate for the slight substance.
