Roddy McDowall contracts terminal cancer

Roddy McDowall, 70, has announced that he is suffering from terminal cancer. The Emmy- and Tony-winning British actor has been acting continuously for 60 of his years, appearing in such movie classics as 1948’s ”My Friend Flicka” and 1968’s ”Planet of the Apes.” Most recently he contributed a voice for Disney’s upcoming computer-animated ”A Bug’s Life.” Variety’s Army Archerd reported McDowall’s announcement, which came as a surprise; just last month McDowall had looked quite healthy when doing publicity for the 30th anniversary of ”Apes.”
