Vince Vaughn shows the makings of a major screen star as Sheriff, a New York limo driver who learns that a casual comrade (Joaquin Phoenix) is about to be executed in Malaysia for drug dealing. If Sheriff and a friend, who helped buy the drugs, agree to go back and serve time, they can save the guy’s life. The film, a true moral thriller, tracks the week in which Sheriff struggles to discover his conscience, and, despite a few hard-to-swallow lapses, it puts you right in touch with his squirmy, divided soul.
