This week on the music charts

Who cares about being No. 1? Not Will Smith, we’ll bet; his Big Willie Style has turned out to be a smash by any standard other than peak chart position. The album entered the Billboard chart in early December at an almost embarrassing No. 31 and took two and a half months to crack the top 10 — and then just barely, seeing how it has still not risen above a measly No. 8. Yet it has SoundScanned more than 2.6 million units, been certified triple platinum, and now reentered the top 10. We can think of a lot of rappers who’ve debuted in first place and quickly nose-dived who’d gladly trade their chart-topping stripes for Mr. Jiggy’s sales and stamina.
