While arguably the best bar band in the country, on disc this punkily rootsy New Orleans-based trio has always exhibited a frustrating split personality. On studio album No. 7, antic stompers that best approximate their wild live show (”King Death,” ”Best Reason”) again mingle with overearnest, faintly bland pop (”Think of Me,” ”Markers Down”) that leaves no doubt as to why Hootie are such big fans.
