To identical-twin brothers Denny and Kenny Scott and their collaborators (including members of the Posies and Eugenius), pop is all about the Badfingers. Their debut album is a calculated effort to re-create old-school AM radio fare, and cloying, guitar-jangle concoctions like the single ”Hey Now Now” prove they know the formula. But it isn’t the cream-soup-thick production that bogs things down. It’s the notion of old-school pop fans desperately trying to convince the ”kids” that their music was better. Swirl 360 will make boomers nostalgic for their Raspberries LPs, but it isn’t likely to make Backstreet Boys worshippers do a 180. C+
