Oliver Platt: Character actor makes big in "Bulworth"
WHERE HAVE YOU SEEN HIM BEFORE? Since debuting in 1988’s Working Girl, the character actor and comic-relief expert has turned up in 18 movies including Indecent Proposal, A Time to Kill, and Executive Decision.
WHAT’S HE UP TO NOW? Playing the coked-out spin doctor to Warren Beatty’s rappin’ senator in Bulworth.
WHAT’S NEXT? He’ll check in as Eddie Murphy’s conniving partner in Doctor Dolittle (“I’m nakedly greedy. Ridiculously greedy. Even joyfully greedy!”), a sympathetic father figure in Simon Birch (an adaptation of John Irving’s A Prayer for Owen Meany), and an out-of-work actor in the Stanley Tucci farce The Imposters. Right now Platt’s shooting Three to Tango, with Neve Campbell and Matthew Perry. “It’s a comedy of mistaken sexual identity,” he says. “I get to be Matthew’s caustic architect partner who gets all the witty comments.”
