If director Gus Van Sant really wants to remake this horror classic shot for shot, he and Vince Vaughan (eyed as the new Norman Bates) would do well to pick up this disc chockful of extras. They could compare Saul Bass’ storyboards for the shower scene with the final cut. Van Sant could re-create Hitch’s droll trailers, one of which shows the director hinting at the gruesome goings-on. ”It’s too horrible to describe” is the most he can bring himself to say. And there’s even a promotional film explaining to theater owners how they could use a recording of Hitchcock’s voice to placate ticket holders unused to being barred from entering once the movie had started.
