Some hard-rock snobs hold that Glover’s Broadway-ready voice was the least appealing element of Living Colour. But in the context of the old school-flavored soul ballads that dominate his solo debut, Glover’s melismatic, gospel-infused singing seems wholly appropriate. And while his Al Green/Stevie Wonder homages may not be original, they’re miles more resonant than the metallic L.C. retread (and Hymns‘ first single) ”Do You First, Then Do Myself.” B-
