The opening flamenco flourishes announce Ely’s continued love affair with the soulful gypsy-cowboy music of his last disc, 1995’s Letter to Laredo. But while the acclaimed Letter was a valentine to Tex-Mex culture, Twistin’ in the Wind is more roadhouse rock & roll with Spanish guitar and accordion woven organically into the mix.
