Nature Film

One of America’s great unsung post-punk bands, the women of Ohio’s Scrawl have always worn battered hearts on tattered sleeves. This mix of new tracks, remakes, and whatnot surveys a decade’s worth of emotional feedback, from resigned wistfulness to swaggering horniness to bald fury. As career retrospective, Nature Film is incomplete. But there’s much to savor, including a feminist rereading of PIL’s ”Public Image” that nearly out-rages the original. A-
