Actress Uma Thurman, 28, married her Gattaca costar Ethan Hawke, 27, May 1, in New York City. Thurman was briefly married to actor Gary Oldman in 1990; this is Hawke’s first marriage. They’re expecting their first child in July…. Actor James Belushi, 43, wed longtime girlfriend Jennifer Sloan, 30, May 2, in L.A. It’s Belushi’s third marriage, Sloan’s first.


Rocker Melissa Etheridge, 36, and her partner, filmmaker Julie Cypher, 32, are expecting a second child in November. Despite reports of artificial insemination, the pair are keeping quiet about the method of conception. They have a daughter, Bailey Jean, 1.


There she is — Miss Tequila? Pneumatic model Anna Nicole Smith, 30, was crowned Miss Republic of Cuervo Gold, April 28. Smith was one of eight contestants flown to Jose Cuervo’s private Caribbean island to compete in swimsuit and poise events. ”The judging was very close,” says Cuervo spokesman Steve Goldstein, ”but her party spirit won out.” Smith will spend her yearlong reign making public appearances.


Daredevil Evel Knievel, 59, is facing his biggest hurdle: a failing liver. Knievel is suffering from hepatitis C, which he contracted at some point over the years during his multiple surgeries and blood transfusions. He is currently awaiting a liver transplant. Says Knievel’s friend, attorney Fred Bezark: ”He’s had a lot of experience facing death, so he’s not worried about this.”


CNN Headline News anchor Don Harrison, 61, from renal cancer, May 2, near Atlanta. Harrison, an original member of the Headline News anchor team in 1982, lost a leg to bone cancer at age 13…. The Boss’ dad, Douglas Springsteen, 73, of undisclosed causes, April 26, in Belmont, Calif. Bruce Springsteen wrote several songs about his father, including ”Adam Raised a Cain.”… Transsexual prostitute Atison Ken Seiuli, 21, fell to her death, April 22, in L.A. Seiuli, who entered the spotlight last year when she got into ”Good Samaritan” Eddie Murphy‘s car, was trying to reenter her locked fifth-floor apartment through a window when she slipped and fell.
