These wry Japanese techno-rockers have collaged sounds for Listerine ads, so it’s no surprise that New Rock, their third release on the inventive Beastie Boys label is minty fresh and people pleasing. The mesmerizing ”Super Blooper” layers spare electronica with syncopated drumming and a flight-attendant voice-over. ”Socks, Drugs and Rock and Roll,” another standout, showcases the trio’s savvy musicianship with its clever mix of anti-rock-star lyrics and crisp funk rhythms. If this is the new rock, bring it on. B+
