The gene pool may have something to do with it, but Ravi Coltrane, a tenor and soprano saxophonist like his exalted father John, has blossomed into a surefooted, passionate improviser on Moving Pictures who actually apes his dad’s sound less than most young players his age. Turn to Coltrane’s gripping reading of Horace Silver’s moving ballad ”Peace” to get a full sense of this saxophonist’s newfound maturity. B
