''Solid Gold'' -- VH1 replays the campy classic revue

”Solid Gold”

In the musically diffuse ’80s, after disco and punk faded and before grunge and hip-hop invaded, Solid Gold (VH1, weekdays, 1-1:30 p.m.) tried to cover all bases. Performers on the syndicated revue included golden oldies (Aretha Franklin, James Brown), dance divas-to-be (Madonna, Janet Jackson), and new-wavers (Billy Idol, the Go-Go’s). Ultimately, though, its campy legacy derives from the Solid Gold Dancers, a coterie of Fame-worthy booty shakers who looked like they walked straight out of an aerobics class — something millions of hormonally crazed young men are still thankful for.
