Solex Vs. The Hitmeister

B+

SOLEX Solex vs. the Hitmeister (Matador) If Bjork had a younger, moodier sister who made confessional homemade tapes, she’d probably be Amsterdam’s Elisabeth Esselink (nom de rock: Solex). Between her phonetic-English delivery, the off-kilter rhythms, and song titles that all include the word Solex, Solex’s debut could have been unlistenably coy. In fact it’s an oddly endearing Dutch treat of an album. The echoey, rattling, wind-tunnel music lends an even eerier power to her tales of obsessions both romantic and physical. B+
