LULLABY FOR THE WORKING CLASS I Never Even Asked for Light (Bar/None) Sure, these Nebraskans may favor the same mandolin-and-Gibson-driven sound as neo-country standard-bearers Son Volt and Whiskeytown, but singer Ted Stevens’ knack for loopy lyrical imagery is more Pavement than Gram Parsons. Rare, indeed, is the troubadour who can spin tales about robots, astronauts, and euclidean geometry and sound like an educated fool. B+
