Wedding Bell Blues

You might expect a comedy like Wedding Bell Blues—about three single gals nearing 30 who get so sick of comments concerning their marital status that they head for Las Vegas to get hitched and divorced overnight—to be a biting feminist take. Guess again: While lip service is paid to the idea that women don’t need husbands to be fulfilled, by film’s end one of these independent career grrrls is married, another’s a vision in white, and the third appears altar bound as well. Which is not to suggest that you have to wait until the final minutes to start feeling nauseous; there are plenty of stale sitcom gags to churn your stomach along the way. C
