When crusty crooner Alex Lowe was discovered by ex-Ride axman Andy Bell, he was picking berries for a living in England. The pairing bore strange new fruit: While an occasionally fumbling Bell drifts from his trademark swirly textures on ”Chain Reaction” and ”Just Another Illusion,” it’s Lowe who grounds the proceedings with a likable Liam Gallagher-ish focus on Hurricane #1. Not what Ride fans were expecting but berry promising. B
