The oldest of the 18 tracks on The Cure’s Galore date back to ’87, when these depressive heartthrobs decided to sound happy. When they try to be funky (”Why Can’t I Be You?”), they seem forced and corny. But when they stick to gothic guitar drones (”Just Like Heaven”), their optimism is endearing, in part because of the insight Robert Smith gained over the years. B
